There is no Western Australia hot water rebate
As at 5 September 2026, Western Australia runs no state-level rebate for replacing a hot water system. The federal Small-scale Technology Certificate scheme applies here as it does everywhere, and is worth roughly $800 to $1,200 off an eligible heat pump or solar thermal system.
That is the complete answer, and it is worth stating plainly rather than burying: if you have been searching for a Western Australia hot water rebate and finding only installer pages that imply one exists, this is why.
Why Western Australia is different
Western Australia is outside the National Electricity Market and its energy pricing works differently enough to change the answer.
First, Synergy's standard residential plan has no controlled load or off-peak rate. In every eastern state an electric storage tank can run overnight at roughly two thirds of the standard price; in Perth it runs at the full 33.3c around the clock. The cheapest way to heat water with electricity simply does not exist here, which strengthens the case for a heat pump considerably.
Second, gas is priced inside out. The regulated tariff set by Energy Policy WA charges 19.06c per unit for the first 12 units a day, where a unit is 3.6 megajoules — that is 5.29c per megajoule, about double the eastern states. But the daily supply charge is only 27.6c against 84c to 96c in the east. Western Australia loads its cost into consumption rather than connection, so light gas users do comparatively well and heavy ones badly. For hot water specifically, which is a steady moderate load, the two effects roughly cancel.

The certificate value is falling every January
The federal scheme is winding down on a fixed schedule. Certificates are deemed over a period that shortens by one year every 1 January, and the scheme ends in 2030 — so the same system installed in Western Australia in December earns about a fifth more than it would a few weeks later.
